In an evening filled with emotion and rhythm, the Consulate of Colombia in Miami, in collaboration with the organization Empoderadas Diversas, hosted the event “An Afternoon with Rey Ruiz.” The gathering, held this past Wednesday, March 18, focused on honoring the renowned artist for his career and steadfast commitment to uplifting women through his music.
A Recognition of Artistic Sensitivity
The ceremony took place as part of the Women’s History Month celebrations, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 5 regarding gender equality and empowerment. During the event, Rey Ruiz was recognized for his ability to transform salsa into a medium for respect and admiration, highlighting his “artistic sensitivity and cultural contribution that exalts the value and dignity of women.”
Culture and Social Commitment
The consulate’s headquarters in Coral Gables was transformed into a space for dialogue and recognition. Attendees were able to experience a more intimate side of the artist, who throughout his career has maintained a musical narrative that celebrates emotions and female empowerment.
“It is an honor for us to award an artist who not only moves crowds with his talent but also uses his platform to promote messages of respect and dignity,” representatives of the organization noted during the presentation of the award.
The event reaffirms the commitment of Colombian institutions and partner organizations in Florida to foster spaces where art and social causes converge for the benefit of the community.
